Roxy the domestic dog suffered a "distressing and gradual expiry" after Katy Gammon locked the five-year-old boxer in a kitchen without whatsoever nutrient or h2o.

The desperate dog had shredded part of the kitchen door in an attempt to escape and had pulled mops, buckets and bowls out of cupboards to try to find water.

In a cruel twist, Gammon had left tins of dog food and treats only exterior the kitchen, just feet away from the starving canis familiaris.

A petition, entitled "Justice For Roxy", chosen for Gammon to be jailed and nerveless 100,494 signatures from animal lovers beyond the country.

Also as being jailed for 18 weeks, she was banned from ever keeping animals again.

Prosecuting for the RSPCA, Lindi Meyer said Gammon had caused Roxy while living with her boyfriend, Adam Taylor in December 2012.

When the couple separated in April 2013, Gammon kept Roxy at domicile while she was at work all day.

Although the dog was initially able to roam the firm as she pleased, Gammon began to lock her in the kitchen considering she urinated and defecated inside.

Gammon began staying with her mother, who lived a few streets away, in Baronial 2013 and although she returned daily to feed Roxy, she was left confined to the kitchen apart from a walk three times a week.

Only when the trainee solicitor confused her articulatio genus in late August, she did not visit her belongings in Campbells Farm Drive, Bristol, for a week.

Ms Meyer said: "When anyone asked about Roxy, she lied and said her ex-boyfriend was looking after her."

The canis familiaris's deplorable remains were discovered covered in maggots on Nov 3 when Avon and Somerset Police attended the belongings after a tip-off from neighbours.

"Roxy had been left with a plastic dog basket and one soiled sheet. She died on the hard lino."

A post-mortem carried out by an RSPCA plant: "Roxy suffered the distress and discomfort of a gradual death. This suffering was entirely avoidable and unnecessary."

The courtroom heard Roxy would take experienced abdominal pain, muscle spasms, incomprehension, an irregular heart rhythm and kidney failure before she died.

In interview Gammon claimed that she had tried to give Roxy away on Facebook but that she had no responses.

She told RSPCA Inspector Miranda Albinson she last attended to Roxy at the firm on August 30 but when she discovered an "awful smell" she did not enter the property.

Gammon told the inspector: "I didn't go into the business firm, I assumed she was dead.

"I never went back.

"I don't know what you want me to say. I can't change it. Information technology's horrific."

In a victim impact argument, her ex-boyfriend Mr Taylor said that he felt "physically sick" after seeing pictures of Roxy's remains.

He said: "Roxy was mistreated by her previous owner. She used to panic if she was left alone and would become distressed.

"I don't understand why Katy did this. She had then many friends and family unit who would have taken Roxy and would have helped her."

Farah Rasid, representing Gammon, said her client had been "hounded" by animal rights campaigners post-obit the discovery of Roxy'south death.

The trainee had been awaiting her first post equally a solicitor when Roxy was discovered, catastrophe her career.

Ms Rasid said: "She is a immature lady who is a prisoner in her own home. She is a young lady who has lost a career she was waiting to beginning.

"She is her own critic of herself."

Gammon remained emotionless equally she told her actions were "deliberate" and was then led to the cells.
